Homemade Vanilla Extract

We have one bottle of homemade vanilla that is 15 years old! As you use the bottle down, top off with more vodka and add another whole vanilla bean once in a while.
Serves: 16 ounces
  • 6 to 8 whole vanilla beans
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) vodka
  • A bottle that will hold the vodka and tall enough for the whole beans
  1. Slit each vanilla bean down the length of one side
  2. Drop the beans into bottle
  3. Add the vodka and seal tightly
  4. Leave for four weeks in a cool place.
  5. Give the bottle a shake once a week.
